15 Dec

Tuesday 28 March, 2017 @ 7:45pm – 11:00pm
Upper Lounge

Please join us for our Songwriting and Jam Night. These are such fun, and some great creative ideas and collaborations have been taking place. Singers and writers as well as musicians are most welcome! We will be in the room upstairs and I will be there by 7.45 so if you come then you can chat while I am setting up and we can start at 8pm.

This is a perfect venue for collaborating in small groups. We do some mini performances at the end of each session and upload recordings to Dropbox so you can continue working on songs after the session. Cost is £5 cash, pay on the night please, and paper and pens are provided. Any questions private message me, Alexxa B Charles

We often work in pairs or group activities so its a very social night too and everyone is very supportive so don’t worry if you’re new to the group. Alexxa leads the group in in a fun and exploratory night of songwriting, ideas generation games, analysis of popular songs and some music theory too!

These are some activities we have done before: identified 8 distinct emotions and written about them, listened to travellers tales as inspiration for songs about travailing, rewritten a Motorhead and an Etta James song into a new one, used chord progressions from songs we like, used picture cards to create ideas, written a hit song for Rihanna about spring fever aboard a yacht, and many more! We do something different each time so its always fun and fresh.

Bring your own instruments including amp if you need it. Please let me know if you would like me to bring my keyboard or if you are bringing your own. There are mics and a PA in the venue.

If you are driving there is free parking in Hanover, the other side of The Level. If you are coming by bus, the 46, 26 and 50 stop on Ditchling Road, the 5B and 49 on London Road nearby.

Alexxa B has sung with several bands, loves improvising and jamming and has been writing songs since she could talk. She studied Music Performance and Vocals at Brighton Uni and Access to Music. http://www.bandmix.co.uk/alexxab/
