Separating Fact & Fiction in Hypnosis
with Dr Devin Terhune
Hypnosis is a valuable method for studying different facets of conscious awareness yet it continues to be one of the most misrepresented and misunderstood phenomena in psychology. Here I will dispel widespread myths and misconceptions about hypnosis and describe what psychologists, neuroscientists, and clinicians have learned about this fascinating phenomenon.
Devin Terhune is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London where he studies conscious awareness and its top-down regulation. His primary interests concern the neurocognitive basis of time perception and individual differences in hypnotic suggestibility.
Join us for the second instalment of Queerdom, Brighton’s freshest queer performance night, featuring a delightful mix of comedy, music, drag and more!
Hosted by King Sammy Silver.
With performances from:
Nicole Henriksen: a provocative, high energy conceptual work of art. The critically-acclaimed performer and writer doesn’t play by the rules of convention, and will switch from whimsy to political commentary and the drop of a hat. Nicole enjoys pasta and intersectional feminism. She can be found taking your girl out to show her what she’s missing.
“a hilarious physical comedian” – The Scotsman
Romeo De La Cruz: he’s energetic, he’s enigmatic, he’s an original legend on the drag king scene – it’s Romeo De La Cruz.
Kristofer: a pop and soul artist from Brighton. Kristofer wishes to challenge the masculine stereotypes of what it means to be a man.
Plus open mic performances from Daphne 10 year old and Atusa Saeipour.
Tickets are £5 in advance or £7 on the door.
Doors 7.30pm | Show 8pm – 10.30pm | After show hangout 10.30pm – late
Comedian Simon Caine returns to Brighton with a work-in-progress version of his 2018 show.
The show itself is about coming to terms with not succeeding in life and slowly realizing you’re the source of your own problems (largely).
About the performer:
Simon Caine has been performing stand up for over 5 years. He’s done over 950 gigs and taken part in 2 Edinburgh Fringe shows. This will be his third solo show.

Focus people! Stand-up comic David Mills is back with another free hour of sharp and hilarious rants. Known for his razor wit and biting humour, Mills takes on modern life with his signature wicked invective. Bracing comedy for adults.
“Like the sharp-suited love child of Larry Grayson and Dave Allen, Mills combines laid-back storytelling with acerbic wit” (Broadway Baby)
“A superior act. Mills is an archduke of comedy with the emphasis on ‘arch'” (Chortle)

Wheely Wheely Wheely Wheely Wheely is the dumbest game show ever to grace the stage on God’s green earth. There will be snorkels, pirate costumes, drawings of donkeys and a glamorous assistant called Stuart.
Stephanie Laing and Paul Duncan McGarrity bring you a silly hour of silliness, with zero artistic merit, but a shockingly high volume of maltesers. This is an interactive show, so be prepared to get involved with some jousting, guess which donkey done a murder, and probably drown in the underwater round. Also, there is a big wheel with the rounds on it that Paul made, hence the name.

Sam and Ben are mysterious government agents who have devoted their lives to protecting the good folk of Brighton from evil aliem abductors. They never fail to save the day and in style! Well, even if they did, they’d erase your memory so you wouldn’t remember…
So grab yourself a front row seat and pray the person next to you isn’t an aliem, or worse a Mrs Brown’s Boys fan!
