DESIREE BURCH + JESSICA FOSTEKEW
Jun 6 @ 7:30pm – 10:00pm

A double bill of Edinburgh comedy previews.

DESIREE BURCH: Desiree’s Coming Early!
She was born late, bloomed late and always missed the bus. But a compelling shift has the fresh-faced/world-weary comedian (Netflix’s Flinch, The Mash Report, Live at the Apollo) mischievously changing up the tempo. As seen on Have I Got News For You, QI, Frankie Boyle’s New World Order, 8 Out of 10 Cats. ***** (ScotsGay.co.uk). **** (Scotsman). **** (Guardian). About self and everything else. Every comic has a relationship show but what happens when that relationship’s with the one person you were most trying to avoid? One isn’t prime or perfect. But it is magic!

JESSICA FOSTEKEW: Hench
Absolute powershed and regular host of The Guilty Feminist, Jessica Fostekew explores her big strong strength. Have you ever watched a feminist try and take ‘hench’ as a compliment? It’s like watching a snake eat but funny. In preview, Hench was nominated for Best Show at the Leicester Comedy Festival. You’ve seen Jess in BBC sitcoms Motherland and Cuckoo and BAFTA Award-winning drama Three Girls. She’s also in forthcoming feature films: Gavin Hood’s Official Secrets and Michael Winterbottom’s Greed. She writes for 8 out of 10 Cats. ‘Consistently hilarious’ (Fest). ‘Smarts on her sleeve, great’ (Guardian).

SIR CEDRIC AND FRIENDS!: THE BEGINNING – THE BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO BEGIN STAND-UP COMEDY (FREE!)
Jun 9 @ 7:00pm – 8:15pm

The ‘Glutton for Punishment’ World Tour continues! Where is he? Oh dear, here he comes! Exiled from the Southern Hemisphere…

From the ashes of the New Zealand and Melbourne Fringe festivals, crawling through the mud of Nelson and Hamilton Fringes and the disaster of Dunedin Fringe… For the very first time in an unwilling Northern Hemisphere… The first Disaster ‘Up North’…

Have you ever wanted to try Stand-Up Comedy? Of course you have! Why wouldn’t you?! Sir Cedric doesn’t know if he ever wanted to be a Stand-Up Comic but it’s happened. He’s walked out of the wilderness and found himself up there in the bright lights of expectant failure. What could possibly go wrong? Whatever could go wrong probably will, but it’s ok because he’s brought some friends along to help out… are they really his friends? Almost certainly not. Daphne The Enthusiast, Julie Christie, Dave the Racist and Not Funny Pete will help ease Sir Cedric’s pained attempts on stage. Or they’ll just kick him in the face whilst he’s down. MC Emcee holds it all together… or makes no effort to stop it all fall apart. Great.

“Those willing to jump right in and support the absurd will have a blast. I’d love to see this show with a moderately intoxicated weekend crowd as I think the atmosphere would play into the hands of Sir Cedric and his crew of stand-up debutantes.” – squirrelcomedy.com

“This was not a total disaster of a show.” – popculture-y.com

PAUL SINHA + LAURA LEXX
Jun 11 @ 7:30pm – 10:00pm

A double bill of Edinburgh comedy previews.

PAUL SINHA: Hazy Little Thing Called Love
Thus far, Paul has lived his life content in the understanding that stability and emotional happiness were lovely ideas but not really for him. Nonetheless, several decades of cheerfully bearing boozy witness to the narratives of others can slowly change a man. And so can a prosecco-fuelled Christmas. ‘This is what a good stand-up should be. Hilariously funny, passionate and articulate’ (Chortle.co.uk). ‘Full of insight and delight. One of our most thoughtful and enjoyable comedians’ (Times). ‘Comedy gold. Every punchline feels fresh’ (Skinny).

LAURA LEXX: Knee Jerk
Star of Live at the Apollo, Laura Lexx is a ‘bouncy, bubbly stand up star’ (Telegraph) shining a hilarious light on how hard it is to be a good person these days. Can you change the world without offending anyone? Her sell-out 2018 show Trying was ‘a masterpiece’ ***** (VoiceMag.uk) and earned her a prestigious Comedian’s Choice Award. Now, Lexx takes on society’s big issues… but come for jokes, not answers. It’s sure to be ‘stomach-achingly funny’ **** (Entertainment-Focus.com) and ‘another skilfully-constructed hour from an underrated performer’ **** (Fest). Early booking recommended.
