TALES FROM THE HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT

‘The way they look at you as second class citizens. The way you’re seen as someone who just wants to come and destroy the country’

Many immigrants living in the UK do not have the right to vote in the upcoming general election. With this new script, a curated collection of first-hand testimonies collected over 20 years from people impacted by immigration policies and laws, ice&fire theatre invite you to consider these voices during this election cycle and beyond.

“It’s only the people who wear those shoes who feel it. People need to stop judging. People have migrated forever.”

ice&fire was founded in 2003, to explore human rights stories through performance, often using testimony and documentary evidence, to bring understanding and empathy to some of the world’s most urgent issues. The Actors for Human Rights network will present staged readings of Tales from the Hostile Environment in several locations during the week before election day, including here in Brighton.
